The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a €25 million loan to Ofis Yem, a leading livestock feed producer in Türkiye, to support the company’s transition toward a green economy and the implementation of inclusive business practices.
The funds will be used to finance the construction of a new production facility in Samsun, along with licensed storage infrastructure in both Samsun and Adana. These investments aim to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce post-harvest losses, according to the EBRD statement.
“Our partnership with the EBRD is important not only for our company and sector, but also for our country. This €25 million loan supports not just our new investments, but our long-term vision. By taking concrete steps to enhance energy efficiency, implement climate-friendly practices, and increase female employment, we aim to lead a sustainable and inclusive transformation in the animal feed sector,” - stated Cem Taşkaldıran, a member of Ofis Yem’s Board.
As part of its sustainability strategy, the project also includes the development of a solar farm in Çorum, which is expected to significantly lower the company’s carbon emissions. Ofis Yem will further implement advanced resource efficiency measures to minimise food loss, contributing to the creation of a circular and low-carbon food system.
“Investing in sustainable green feed production is essential for reducing emissions in Türkiye’s livestock sector and achieving national climate goals,” said Natalia Zhukova, the EBRD’s Head of Agribusiness. “With targeted financing, we can accelerate the transition to climate-smart practices that boost productivity, enhance resilience, and support a low-carbon future for agriculture.”
In parallel, the initiative will support gender inclusion in Türkiye’s livestock feed sector, where female employment has seen a sharp decline. Ofis Yem plans to adopt improved policies and set clear targets to increase the number of women employed in the company.
