Microsoft makes advanced Copilot features free, while pro subscribers get priority

In a major update to its AI assistant platform, Microsoft announced today that it will offer unlimited free access to two of Copilot’s advanced features—Voice and Think Deeper—powered by OpenAI’s o1 model.

The Voice feature, which Microsoft introduced in October 2024, enables users to engage in interactive, conversational exchanges with Copilot, streamlining everyday tasks through natural language dialogue. Think Deeper, the new addition, is designed to process complex queries—such as weighing the pros and cons of major home purchases by considering cost and long-term value—providing more comprehensive and nuanced responses.

“We are working hard to scale unlimited access to advanced features to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible,” the company said in a blog post accompanying the announcement. However, Microsoft noted that users of the free version may experience delays or interruptions during periods of high demand.

Meanwhile, subscribers to the Copilot Pro plan will continue to receive preferential access to the latest AI models and experimental features, ensuring that they enjoy a smoother and more robust experience even during peak usage times.

This move marks a significant step in Microsoft’s broader strategy to democratize access to advanced AI capabilities, empowering users across the board while maintaining a premium tier for those seeking cutting-edge functionality.
