U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly denied reports suggesting his administration considered offering Iran $30 billion for a civilian nuclear program, calling the claims a “hoax.”
President Trump rejected media reports claiming his administration discussed a $30 billion proposal to help Iran build a civilian nuclear energy program. Outlets cited unnamed sources suggesting that preliminary economic incentives, including asset unfreezing, were floated in exchange for Iran halting uranium enrichment.
Trump blasted the reports on Truth Social, labeling them fake news and denying ever considering such a deal. Since April, Iran and the U.S. have engaged in indirect talks on Tehran’s nuclear activities, which Iran claims are peaceful.
A recent flare-up in the Israel-Iran conflict—sparked by Israeli airstrikes—led to U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and a retaliatory Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Qatar, before Trump announced a ceasefire.
While Israel seeks to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, the UN nuclear watchdog maintains there is no credible evidence of an active weapons program in Iran.
