US authorities have identified the man suspected of killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson. The NYPD is withholding the suspect's name to deny him any advantage.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told CNN that police have gathered “a huge amount of evidence,” including fingerprints, DNA evidence and camera footage of the suspect’s movements throughout the city.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams told reporters at a Policce Athletic League holiday party in Harlem that “the net is tightening”. Mayor Adams also declined to name the suspect.

United Health CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down outside the Hilton Hotel on Sixth Avenue. Police say Thompson was targeted in a pre-planned killing, for which they do not yet have a motive.

United Health serves millions of Americans. The company has also been grappling with a significant data breach in its Change Healthcare division. This has disrupted patient services and delayed payments to providers.

The New York police have offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the shooter and the FBI has added $50,000 to that reward.
