A cargo ship sailing under the Singapore flag caught fire in the Arabian Sea, forcing crew members to abandon ship as thick smoke and explosions rocked the vessel.

The Singapore-flagged container ship burst into flames about 144 km off the coast of Kerala, India, after multiple explosions caused a fire on board. Eighteen of the 22 crew members were forced to jump into the sea to escape, and all were later rescued. The fire also led to 40 containers falling overboard. Officials have not yet disclosed what was inside the containers or what triggered the blasts. This is the second shipping incident in the area within a month, following a separate container vessel sinking off Kerala’s coast.
