Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng will visit the UK from June 8–13 for the first round of China-U.S. economic and trade consultations. Talks will include U.S. Treasury and Commerce Secretaries and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.
China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng is set to visit the United Kingdom from June 8 to June 13, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday. The visit will coincide with the inaugural meeting of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism, marking a fresh phase in efforts to stabilise bilateral trade relations.
The ministry stated that the high-level talks with the United States will take place during Vice Premier He's stay in the UK. The consultation mechanism was launched earlier this year to create a structured dialogue following renewed commitments by both nations to ease trade tensions.
Vice Premier He Lifeng, who led China’s delegation during the initial round of trade talks in May, will once again head Beijing’s negotiating team.
On the American side, President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that the U.S. delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. All three officials are expected to play pivotal roles in framing Washington’s economic approach toward China under the current administration.
The upcoming talks are widely seen as a potential turning point in U.S.-China relations, as both sides seek to address key issues ranging from market access and supply chain resilience to intellectual property protections and bilateral investment frameworks.
Observers say the UK setting offers a neutral venue for renewed dialogue as global markets watch closely for signs of progress in one of the world's most consequential economic relationships.
