"This morning, on June 7, 2025, as a result of a successful Air Force operation in the Kursk direction, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet was shot down," the Ukrainian military stated via its Telegram messenger channel.
No further details regarding the incident were immediately provided by the Ukrainian side. Russian forces have yet to comment on the matter, and Reuters has not been able to independently verify the report.
This alleged downing comes just a week after Ukraine's security agency, the SBU, reportedly conducted a large-scale drone attack that targeted over 40 Russian military aircraft. That operation claimed to have damaged or destroyed dozens of Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers, aircraft frequently utilized by Russia to launch long-range missiles against Ukrainian targets.
