The European Union reiterated its strong support for the International Criminal Court after the U.S.sanctioned four of its judges.
The European Union reaffirmed its strong support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Friday, calling it a “cornerstone of international justice,” according to European Council President Antonio Costa.
His remarks followed a move by the United States to impose sanctions on four ICC judges. The decision came after the court issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and previously opened a case into alleged war crimes committed by U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
The EU has long supported the role of the ICC in upholding international law and accountability.
