Poland’s presidential race neck-and-neck, exit poll shows

Exit polls show a razor-thin lead for liberal candidate Rafal Trzaskowski, with official results expected Monday in Poland’s too-close-to-call presidential race.

Exit polls suggest Poland’s presidential election is too close to call, with results expected to come down to the wire.

A poll released immediately after voting closed — with a margin of error of 3% — showed Warsaw’s liberal mayor, Rafal Trzaskowski, narrowly leading with 50.3%, just ahead of conservative historian Karol Nawrocki at 49.7%.

Trzaskowski has already declared victory, promising to serve as president for all Poles. Nawrocki’s supporters, however, say the race isn’t over and have vowed to keep fighting.

If confirmed, Trzaskowski’s win would mark the end of the Law and Justice (PiS) party’s decade-long hold on the presidency.

While the Polish presidency is largely ceremonial, the role includes the power to veto legislation. Official results are expected on Monday.
