Tom Barrack, US ambassador to Türkiye and special envoy to Syria, confirmed that under President Donald Trump, the US military’s mission to defeat ISIS (Daesh) in Syria is nearly complete, with 99 percent of the objective achieved.
In an interview with Syria TV, Barrack explained that the US presence in Syria is focused on ensuring the security of the region and eliminating the threat of terrorism. He emphasized that Trump’s goal is not to govern Syria but to support and empower the Syrian government.
To illustrate the US role, Barrack said, “A good way to think about it is we want to be the dessert, the baklava.”
