Iran has slammed an Austrian intelligence report accusing it of pursuing a military nuclear program, calling the claims baseless and demanding an official explanation from Vienna.
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei dismissed the claims as unsubstantiated and politically motivated, accusing Austria of trying to manipulate global opinion. He emphasized Iran’s commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stressing that Iran has consistently opposed weapons of mass destruction.
The report contradicts recent U.S. intelligence assessments stating Iran is not developing nuclear weapons. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also refuted the report, urging diplomacy over media speculation amid ongoing nuclear talks with Washington. Meanwhile, President Trump claimed progress in negotiations, warning Israel against military action.
