U.S. President Donald Trump said he is reluctant to impose new sanctions on Russia, warning that such measures could jeopardize efforts to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Speaking from the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump expressed caution over introducing additional sanctions against Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“If I think I'm close to getting a deal, I don't want to screw it up by doing that,” Trump told reporters, referring to peace negotiations.

Trump also suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be deliberately delaying ceasefire talks and voiced disappointment over recent Russian airstrikes.

“We're going to find out whether or not he's tapping us along or not, and if he is, we'll respond a little differently,” the president said.
