The missing individuals were on a farm tractor that was swept away by the floodwaters. Authorities have confirmed that the search for them is ongoing. The country’s Disaster Management Centre also reported the tragic death of a woman who was buried in a mudslide.
Athula Karunanayake, Director General of the Department of Meteorology and Disaster Management Centre, provided an update on the weather situation.
“The minor cyclone is projected to be moving away from the island, the adverse weather will ease off, relatively, by the 29th and 30th of November."
In the aftermath of the floods, more than 3,000 people have been relocated to evacuation centers for safety.
