Turkish and US trade officials convened in Washington to discuss reciprocal tariffs and strategies to achieve a $100 billion bilateral trade volume, reaffirming their commitment to strengthen economic ties.
In a recent meeting in Washington, Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Murat Tuzcu and US Deputy Trade Representative Bryant Trick discussed the implications of the US's new reciprocal tariff policy, which imposes a baseline 10% tariff on imports, including those from Türkiye . Despite these tariffs, both nations emphasized their shared goal of increasing bilateral trade to $100 billion, building on the momentum of a trade volume that reached approximately $35.2 billion in 2024.
The discussions also highlighted mutual opportunities in sectors such as defense, energy, innovation, and cybersecurity. Türkiye aims to align with US supply chains through collaborative programs, reducing the impact of protectionist measures. Both sides are committed to intensifying efforts to reach their ambitious trade target, despite the challenges posed by the new tariff landscape.
