Prime Minister Keir Starmer has issued an apology to Plaid Cymru MP Liz Saville Roberts, admitting he was "overly rude" during a recent exchange in the House of Commons.
The apology comes after criticism of Starmer’s response to a question from Saville Roberts during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday. The MP had raised concerns about the language used in the government’s new immigration policy, questioning whether Starmer held any consistent principles.
Starmer responded at the time by saying: “Yes - the belief that she talks rubbish,” before continuing with his answer. The comment drew criticism from several quarters, prompting the prime minister to later acknowledge that his tone had been inappropriate.
Saville Roberts has not publicly responded to the apology.
