Austria has won the 69th Eurovision Song Contest. JJ claimed the trophy with his emotional pop-opera ballad Wasted Love, scoring 426 points in the grand final held in Basel, Switzerland.
JJ beat out strong competition from Israel, which finished second with 357 points, and Estonia, which placed third with 356 points. He topped the jury vote with 258 points and earned another 168 from the public televote.
A total of 26 countries competed in the final, often called the “pop Olympics” — a night filled with music, emotion, and plenty of drama.
Austria now celebrates its third Eurovision victory. The country first won in 1966 with Merci, Chérie, and again in 2014 with Conchita Wurst’s unforgettable Rise Like A Phoenix.
This year’s show also featured special performances by past contestants, including former winner Nemo and a new collaboration between Croatia’s Baby Lasagna and Finland’s Käärijä.
