U.S. President Donald Trump landed in Doha on Wednesday, continuing his Gulf tour after lifting all U.S. sanctions on Syria and holding a first meeting in Riyadh with Syria’s new president, Ahmed al‑Sharaa.

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Doha on Wednesday for the second leg of a three‑day trip to the Gulf. Earlier in Riyadh, he announced that Washington will lift all U.S. sanctions on Syria and held his first meeting with Syria’s recently installed president, Ahmed al‑Sharaa.

In remarks at a Riyadh investment forum, Trump said the sanctions decision was taken after consultations with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye and was intended to facilitate humanitarian relief, trade, and investment as Syria undertakes reconstruction. He also outlined three conditions he expects to see in any future nuclear arrangement with Iran and listed five governance and security benchmarks for the Syrian government, though details were not released.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed the sanctions move during a video call with Trump and Sharaa on Tuesday. European leaders have not commented in detail; Israel has said it is reviewing the potential impact on regional security.

While in Doha, President Trump is scheduled to meet Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to discuss defence cooperation and trade. He is expected to travel next to the United Arab Emirates to conclude the regional tour.
