Israel targeted senior Hamas leader Mohammad Sinwar in an airstrike on a hospital in southern Gaza on Tuesday , according to a senior Israeli official and two sources familiar with the operation.

Sinwar became the militant group’s de facto leader after his brother, Yahya Sinwar, was killed by Israeli forces in October.
