Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has welcomed Russia’s latest signal for renewed peace talks with Ukraine, offering Istanbul once again as a venue for direct negotiations.
President Recep Tayyib Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone to discuss regional tensions and bilateral relations, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.
During the call, Erdogan praised Putin’s recent openness to resuming negotiations with Kyiv in Istanbul. He reaffirmed that Türkiye remains ready to host direct talks aimed at ending the war.
Erdogan reportedly said a new window of opportunity has emerged. A lasting ceasefire, he added, would lay the groundwork for meaningful dialogue between the two sides.
While Russia has not detailed its terms, and Ukraine has yet to respond publicly, Ankara continues to position itself as a mediator capable of bridging gaps between Moscow and Kyiv.
The call also covered broader regional issues and cooperation in defence and energy.
