Britain and Switzerland have signed an agreement to explore the creation of a direct rail connection between London and Switzerland, aiming to expand cross-border train travel beyond existing routes to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam.
Britain and Switzerland on Friday signed a new agreement to initiate work on a potential direct passenger rail service linking London to Switzerland, according to a government statement.
As part of the agreement, a joint working group will be formed to identify and address commercial, technical, and security challenges involved in running trains from the UK, through the Channel Tunnel, across France, and into Swiss territory.
At present, direct Eurostar services from London operate only to Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. The proposed expansion would mark a significant step in enhancing European rail connectivity.
