Nearly 100 young and middle-aged military officers from over 40 African countries including Egypt, Mozambique, Tanzania and Kenya have started a 10-day visit to China at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of National Defence.

During their visit through May 15, the delegation will take part in exchange activities and visit several cities, including Beijing, Changsha, and Shaoshan in central Hunan Province.

"Hosted by the Chinese PLA National University of Defense Technology, this activity aims to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), deepen the traditional friendship between the militaries of China and African countries, enhance mutual understanding among young and middle-aged military officers from China and Africa, and contribute to building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era,"- the ministry said.

Earlier this year, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged 1 billion yuan (about $136 million) in military aid to Africa during a trip to Namibia, DR Congo, Chad, and Nigeria.

Wang also said China would help train 6,000 troops and 1,000 police officers across the continent.
