A suspected natural gas explosion in a four-storey residential building in Konya's Karatay district injured 12 people, one seriously, prompting a large-scale emergency response in the early hours of Monday.
Twelve people were injured, one seriously, in an explosion believed to be caused by a natural gas leak in Konya's Karatay district, according to local authorities. The blast occurred around 1:40 a.m. on Monday on the third floor of a four-storey building on Menzil Street in the Gazi Osmanpaşa neighbourhood.
Following emergency calls, the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), police, fire brigade, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
The injured were taken by ambulance to nearby hospitals for treatment.
In a written statement, the Konya Governor’s Office confirmed that an explosion and subsequent fire had taken place.
Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the incident.
