The UN Human Rights Chief, Volker Turk, expressed grave concern over the recent escalation of hostilities in Lebanon, where Israeli airstrikes have reportedly killed nearly 100 people, including women, children, and medics. The strikes, which took place between November 22-24, have intensified the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

UN spokesperson Jeremy Laurence confirmed that at least 97 people had died in the airstrikes, and seven paramedics were among the casualties. Since October 7, 2023, a total of 226 healthcare workers have been killed. However, it was unclear how many of the recent deaths had been verified by UN monitors.

Israel maintains that its operations target Hezbollah’s military capabilities and takes precautions to minimise civilian casualties. It accuses Hezbollah of using civilians as cover, a claim the group denies.
