Political directors from France, Britain, and Germany are scheduled to meet with Iranian officials in Rome on Friday, according to two diplomatic sources who confirmed the meeting to Reuters.
This development follows a new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States that resumed in Oman on Saturday, as well as talks with Russia and China last week. Iran's outreach to the European powers – the E3 – signals its desire to keep its options open while assessing the European stance on the possible re-imposition of U.N. sanctions. The current resolution that ratifies the 2015 nuclear deal is set to expire in October, adding urgency to the discussions.
This meeting, set against the backdrop of ongoing nuclear talks, could have significant implications for the future of the nuclear accord and for global diplomatic efforts in the region.
