China has announced significant updates to its undergraduate curriculum by incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its academic offerings.
The Education Ministry revealed that 29 new academic majors will be introduced, including those focused on AI and emerging fields like low-altitude economy, as part of this year’s college entrance examinations.
According to an official statement cited by Global Times, the aim of these new programs is to align with China's national strategies and meet the growing market demand for skilled professionals in cutting-edge technologies. Among the new majors are regional and country studies, carbon neutrality science and engineering, marine science and technology, and healthcare security.
In response to advancements in technology, additional programs such as intelligent molecular engineering, medical devices and equipment engineering, and spatiotemporal information engineering have also been added to the curriculum. Furthermore, market-driven fields like international cruise management and aviation sports have been created to align with industry needs.
The inclusion of AI-related majors, including AI education, intelligent audiovisual engineering, and digital drama, reflects China's commitment to harnessing AI’s potential to drive both economic and social progress. These additions signal China’s continued focus on integrating emerging technologies into its higher education system.
