Police in Ecuador have arrested four suspects after gunmen killed 12 people at a cockfighting ring.

Police in Ecuador say they have arrested four people in connection with a deadly attack at a cockfighting ring that left 12 people dead.

In a coordinated operation involving tactical units, intelligence services, and the Attorney General’s Office, several raids were carried out in El Carmen, leading to the capture of four suspects. One of them is considered an Intermediate Value Target and a member of the organized criminal group ‘Los R7’, according to police.

Local media reports suggest the attackers, disguised in fake military gear, were members of a criminal gang targeting rivals at the cockfight. During the raids, authorities seized weapons and replica police and army uniforms in the northwestern Manabí province.

Provincial authorities have launched a criminal investigation. Up to 20 criminal gangs are believed to be active in Ecuador, competing for control of major drug trafficking routes.
