U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that the U.S. will soon sign a minerals and natural resources deal with Ukraine. He also expressed optimism about potential peace talks between Ukraine and Russia, following recent discussions with both leaders.
On March 20, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States will soon sign a minerals and natural resources deal with Ukraine, marking a significant step in both economic and diplomatic efforts. The agreement is expected to unlock critical minerals and rare earth resources, which are vital for the United States’ future industrial and security needs. The announcement came during a White House event where Trump signed an executive order aimed at increasing U.S. production of these essential minerals.
“We're doing very well with regard to Ukraine and Russia,” Trump said, adding that the deal with Ukraine will unlock valuable rare earth elements that are important to both nations. He expressed hope that the agreement would help Ukraine reciprocate the U.S. assistance it has received since Russia's invasion. Trump also highlighted his discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that he would “love to see that come to an end” and that efforts to secure peace were "going pretty well."
Previously Ukraine and the U.S. were due to finalize a minerals deal last month, with Trump seeing it as a way for Ukraine to reciprocate U.S. assistance. But efforts to seal an agreement faced setbacks after a public display of tensions between Trump and Zelenskyy at The White House.
