Russia will demand guarantees that Ukraine remains neutral and is excluded from NATO membership as part of any future peace agreement, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Monday.
Grushko told Izvestia that Moscow wants “ironclad security guarantees” included in any potential deal, ensuring Ukraine does not join NATO. He stated that NATO countries must refuse to accept Ukraine into the alliance as part of the agreement.
The statement comes amid ongoing tensions over Ukraine’s potential NATO accession, which Moscow has long opposed. Russia has repeatedly said that Ukraine’s neutrality is key to regional security.
