Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, has expressed optimism that the U.S. president will speak with Russian leader Vladimir Putin this week to discuss ending the ongoing war in Ukraine, following what he described as productive talks in Moscow.
Donald Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, stated on Sunday that he anticipates the U.S. president will speak with Russian leader Vladimir Putin this week about ways to end the three-year war in Ukraine.
Witkoff, after what he described as positive discussions with Putin in Moscow, told CNN that he was optimistic about making real progress towards ending the conflict.
"I expect that there will be a call with both presidents this week, and we're also continuing to engage and have conversations with the Ukrainians," he said, adding that he believed the talk between Trump and Putin would be "really good and positive."
Witkoff acknowledged that the situation on the ground was extremely complicated, but stated, "We're bridging the gap between two sides."
