Italy’s Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna regions are grappling with severe flooding and landslides, prompting a red weather alert as heavy rains inundate streets and homes.
Italy is facing severe flooding and landslides in the regions of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, prompting authorities to extend a red weather alert.
Streets have turned into torrents of mud, homes have been inundated, and residents have been trapped by rising waters. Tuscany's regional president stated that local rescue and health services remain on high alert, urging residents to exercise extreme caution.
In Florence, nearly a month's worth of rain fell on Friday morning, while landslides and mudslides were reported in Bologna, where some residents were evacuated ahead of the heavy downpour. More than 500 firefighters were working across Tuscany, the interior minister said, with more than 300 interventions either carried out or planned.
Officials report that no casualties have been recorded so far, and the worst of the flooding had subsided by mid-morning on Friday.
