Heavy rainfall in northwestern Peru has caused a river to overflow, destroying infrastructure, flooding agricultural lands, and affecting at least 150 families in Tumbes province.
In the Corrales district, images shared by local media show at least one house severely damaged by the floodwaters, while others remain surrounded by strong currents. Affected residents are struggling to reach safer areas amid the disaster.
The Mayor of Tumbes Provincial Municipality, Hildebrando Anton, stated to the press that the disaster has devastated over 5,000 hectares of farmland, with bananas, lemons, and cereals being the most affected crops.
Authorities have urgently called on the government to declare a state of emergency in the region to enable the swift mobilization of necessary resources for disaster relief efforts.
Currently, regional officials, in coordination with the Peruvian Army and Navy, are working on preventive measures and risk mitigation to address the crisis.
