European leaders meet in Paris for urgent talks on Ukraine, led by French President Macron, amid concerns over U.S. policy shifts and Trump's direct engagement with Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency meeting on Ukraine in Paris on Monday afternoon, bringing together European leaders to address growing concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s direct engagement with Russia and his administration’s move to exclude the EU from peace negotiations on Ukraine.

Attending the summit are leaders from the UK, Germany, Poland, Italy, and Denmark, along with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in addition to Macron as the host.

Discussions are expected to center on European security and sustaining support for Kyiv in light of shifting U.S. priorities.

The meeting follows reports that Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the Ukraine conflict, a move that reportedly took Kyiv and its allies by surprise.

Additionally, Washington has cautioned NATO that Europe will no longer be its primary security focus, as U.S. strategic attention shifts toward China.
