The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating whether "bad data" contributed to the fatal collision between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and a passenger jet near Washington, D.C., last month, NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy said.
The NTSB is examining whether incorrect flight data misled the Black Hawk's crew before the deadly crash. Homendy confirmed that the pilots of the military helicopter were believed to be using night vision goggles at the time of the incident.
The Black Hawk collided with the passenger aircraft late last month, killing multiple personnel. The investigation aims to determine whether the data the crew relied on played a role in the accident.
Officials have yet to release further details on the crash, but early findings suggest potential issues with the helicopter’s navigation or communication systems. The NTSB continues to review flight records and interview witnesses to establish the sequence of events leading to the collision.
