U.S. President Donald Trump spoke separately with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday. The talks focused on ending the war in Ukraine, with Putin inviting Trump to Moscow and Zelensky’s office confirming a one-hour call.
U.S. President Donald Trump held phone conversations with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, discussing efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump first spoke with Putin for nearly 90 minutes, during which they discussed Ukraine, a potential prisoner exchange, and bilateral relations, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The Russian leader invited Trump to Moscow and expressed readiness to host U.S. officials for further discussions.
Peskov said the call covered a broad range of topics, including the Middle East, and that Putin reiterated the need to eliminate what he called the “root causes” of the conflict in Ukraine.
Following that call, Trump said he would contact Zelensky to inform him about his conversation with Putin. The Ukrainian president’s office later confirmed that Trump and Zelensky spoke for about an hour on Wednesday evening.
Trump has repeatedly stated his intention to broker peace between Russia and Ukraine, though no formal negotiations have been announced. The former president, author of the 1987 book Trump: The Art of the Deal, has said he wants to bring both sides to the table, but details on any future summit remain unclear.
