Three people were killed, including a child and seven others were injured in Russian air strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region early on Wednesday, Ukrainian officials have said.
The attacks occurred early on Wednesday (30 September). A witness reported hearing explosions in the city.
Kyiv's Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said on Telegram that fires had broken out, affecting private houses as well as a shop and a warehouse. Two people were injured in the city, he said.
Tymur Tkachenko, Governor of the Kyiv region, said a Russian missile and drone strike had killed a child and injured three more people. Infrastructure facilities, houses, warehouses and cars were also damaged, he wrote on Telegram.
Ukraine's neighbours, European Union and NATO members Romania and Poland, have both scrambled military jets to protect their airspaces amid Russian attacks on Ukraine, according to defence ministry and armed forces statements on X.
Meanwhile, Russia's defence ministry said on Wednesday that Russian forces had launched a massive overnight strike, hitting a communications centre in Ukraine's capital, energy facilities in the Kyiv region that support military production, and port infrastructure in Izmail.
These include the De Novo data centre in Kyiv, which Russia described as a major internet traffic exchange hub supporting the Ukrainian armed forces.
However, power company in Kyiv, DTEK said that power workers had restored electricity for 8,000 households.
In the Kyiv region, Russia said it hit the Kyivska power substation near Nalyvaikivka, the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant in Vyshhorod, the Trypilska thermal power plant and an energy storage facility in Horenychi. Moscow said the facilities supplied electricity to Ukraine's military-industrial sector and military sites in and around Kyiv.
In the Odesa region, Russia said it struck an industrial complex at the port of Izmail used to receive, store and transport military cargo and fuel for the Ukrainian military.
Russia also said it hit a dry cargo vessel in the northwestern Black Sea that was allegedly carrying military equipment and dual-use goods to the port of Odesa.

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Minister for Digital Transformation, Oksana Ferchuk, said the country planned to draw on military expertise and digital innovation gained during the conflict to boost high-tech exports.
She said the country was exploring cooperation agreements with countries, including the U.S., as well as international institutions.
“Ukraine during the war showed this tremendous speed of digitising the state services and providing the services to the population in a digital way,” Ferchuk said.
Earlier this week she travelled to Washington to meet with U.S. economic, cybersecurity and telecommunications officials, as well as senior leaders at global development organisation, the World Bank.
“We are ready to cooperate and consult other states in this experience, how it was done, how it was analysed, what is the architecture,” she added.
