As the Ukraine war is highlighted by some leaders during the United Nations' 81st General Assembly meeting in New York, Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early on Thursday with ballistic missiles, killing two people and injuring six, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Ukraine has transferred two North Korean prisoners of war to South Korea, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an address to the United Nations General Assembly.
“These guys are not easy to capture alive. One of them, when he realised he was going to be taken prisoner, tried to kill himself. And he was shocked that fate did not let him die,” said Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy did not provide more details about the return. Ukraine captured the two North Koreans in Russia's Kursk region in January last year.
Debris fell across three districts, damaging a maternity hospital, clinic, residential building and private homes. Three of the injured were medical workers, with two people reported to be in serious condition.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes and called for stronger sanctions against Russia and more air defence systems.
Overnight strikes also damaged residential, medical and educational facilities in the Black Sea port of Odesa.
