Azerbaijan and Ukraine are seeking to deepen cooperation in energy, reconstruction and trade, with Baku signalling its readiness to supply natural gas to Ukraine and expand its role in rebuilding projects following high-level talks in Kyiv.
Energy cooperation emerged as a key focus of discussions between the two countries, with Azerbaijan expressing its readiness to help meet Ukraine's energy needs while exploring new opportunities for broader collaboration.
Speaking at a joint press conference, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov highlighted the long-standing presence of Azerbaijan's state energy company, SOCAR, in Ukraine, describing it as a cornerstone of economic ties between the two countries.
"SOCAR continues to operate actively in Ukraine even now, and we are confident that it has great plans for the future," he said.
Bayramov said officials had held extensive discussions on expanding energy cooperation and identifying new opportunities in the sector.
He noted that Azerbaijan currently exports natural gas to 16 countries, including 12 European states, 10 of which are members of the European Union.
Against that backdrop, he said Azerbaijan would be prepared to supply gas to Ukraine if required.
"From this perspective, we also would be happy to provide gas also to friendly Ukraine, in case of necessity," Bayramov said.
He added that cooperation could extend beyond bilateral trade and contribute to wider regional energy security initiatives.
The visit also highlighted Azerbaijan's contribution to reconstruction efforts in Ukraine.
During a visit to the city of Irpin, one of the areas hardest hit by the war, Bayramov toured projects restored with Azerbaijani support, including the Irpin City Central Polyclinic.
The medical facility was rebuilt with assistance from the Azerbaijani government and SOCAR Ukraine after suffering extensive damage during the fighting. The reconstruction included repairs to the building's exterior, the installation of modern safety systems and the construction of a new shelter.
Bayramov also visited the Irpin Humanitarian Lyceum "Linguist", named after academician Zarifa Əliyeva, which was renovated with Azerbaijani support. A generator was also provided to help the school maintain operations during power shortages.
Ukrainian officials were also briefed on four additional reconstruction projects that Azerbaijan plans to implement in Irpin.
The two foreign ministers held both private and expanded meetings with their respective delegations, reviewing the current state of bilateral relations and discussing regional and international security issues.
Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening what they described as allied relations based on mutual respect and consideration of each other's national interests.
Bayramov's visit also included a ceremony honouring fallen Ukrainian defenders, where the Azerbaijani and Ukrainian foreign ministers laid flowers at a memorial site in Kyiv.
