Israel will allow a multinational security force to enter Gaza under U.S. President Donald Trump's ceasefire plan for the enclave, an Israeli official said, a day before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was due to travel to Washington.
Netanyahu's security cabinet approved the legal framework for the force's entry into Gaza on Sunday, the official said. Netanyahu is scheduled to depart for Washington on Monday and is expected to meet Trump on Tuesday.
The mission, called the International Stabilization Force, is expected to include 200 members from friendly countries such as Uganda and Morocco, deploying in areas that are not under Israeli control. Each contingent would require individual Israeli approval to enter Gaza.
It was not immediately clear when the force would deploy. The plan is part of Trump's broader framework for Gaza, which envisages expanded humanitarian aid, civilian administration by Palestinian technocrats, Hamas disarmament and Israeli military withdrawal.
Implementation has stalled. The proposed Palestinian technocratic administration has remained outside Gaza, while Hamas has refused to disarm and Israel says it intends to expand its area of control in the enclave.
