Türkiye detains 15 over Bolu ski resort fire that killed 78, sparking calls for accountability amid claims of safety lapses at the Grand Kartal Hotel.
Türkiye has detained 15 individuals as part of an investigation into a devastating fire at a ski resort in the Bolu mountains that claimed 78 lives and left dozens injured earlier this week, state media reported on Sunday.
The incident has prompted widespread demands for accountability and reforms, with independent experts highlighting that the Grand Kartal Hotel, located at the Kartalkaya ski resort in western Türkiye, lacked essential fire safety measures.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Saturday that the judiciary in Türkiye is actively working to hold all responsible parties accountable. The hotel's management has assured full cooperation with the investigation.
According to Anadolu Agency, the hotel's owner, manager, director, and 12 other individuals were arrested as part of the ongoing inquiry. Judicial proceedings are also underway for the deputy mayor of Bolu province and the head of the local fire department, while six others have been released under specific conditions.
