Greek rescue teams searched on Tuesday after a four-storey apartment building collapsed in the Petralona district of Athens. Four people initially feared trapped were later found safe, while search operations continued as a precaution.

Authorities later confirmed that four people who were initially reported trapped had been located and were safe, although search operations at the site continued as a precaution.

Fire service crews, supported by search dogs, combed through the rubble of the collapsed building, while additional emergency personnel remained on standby.

Unclear cause of collapse

The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined. The building contained seven flats, according to the fire brigade.

Officials said construction work was taking place in an adjacent building at the time of the incident, although it remains unclear whether this was linked to the structural failure.

Emergency response underway

Rescue teams remained at the scene as investigations continued into the condition of surrounding buildings.

Authorities have not reported any confirmed casualties, and efforts remain focused on ensuring that no one is trapped beneath the debris.

Further assessments are expected as engineers and emergency services examine the stability of nearby buildings in the Petralona district.
