Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, who will visit Moscow on an official visit.

On 17th January, Vladimir Putin and Masoud Pezeshkian will sign the Agreement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran.

Two leaders will discuss the prospects for further expansion of bilateral cooperation, including in trade, investment, transport, logistics, and culture, as well as current regional and international issues.

In interview with IRNA, Iran's Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, said that the visit of President Masoud Pezeshkian to Moscow will be “historic” and the new agreement would cover all aspects of the bilateral relationship.

The new agreement covers politics, economics, modern technologies, information and cybersecurity, peaceful nuclear energy, defence and military matters, the fight against terrorism, environmental issues, and the combat against money laundering and organized crimes, the Iranian diplomat added.

Both Russia and Iran are under heavy Western sanctions that include restrictions on their vital energy industries.

Pezeshkian's visit to Russia comes just days before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump comes to power who is seeking peace deals in both the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
