Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu has arrived in China for an official visit, where he is due to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss international and regional security issues, Russian state media reported on Sunday.

Russia’s Security Council said the talks will focus on what it described as a changing security environment at both global and regional levels.

Shoigu’s trip comes as diplomatic activity intensifies around efforts to end the nearly four-year war in Ukraine, following recent contacts involving Russian, Ukrainian and U.S. officials.

The Russian Security Council said Shoigu is also scheduled to hold discussions with Wang Yi in his capacity as director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs of the Communist Party of China.

Shoigu and Wang last met in December in Moscow, underscoring regular high-level coordination between Russia and China on foreign policy and security matters.
