Poland has officially closed its Consulate General in St. Petersburg following Russia’s decision to shut it down in response to Warsaw’s closure of the Russian consulate in Poznań.
The Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed the closure, with Ambassador Krzysztof Krajewski expressing hope for a future reopening. Polish diplomatic missions in Moscow, Kaliningrad, and Irkutsk will remain operational.
Russia had announced the move in December, citing "reciprocity" and accusing Poland of a hostile policy. In October, Poland closed the Russian consulate in Poznań over alleged sabotage, prompting Moscow to declare three Polish diplomats persona non grata.
