A light aircraft crashed near Rottnest Island, off the coast of Perth, Western Australia, killing the pilot and two tourists from Switzerland and Denmark, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
The crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon while carrying six tourists. Three survivors were injured.
Western Australian Premier Roger Cook expressed condolences to the victims’ families, saying, "My thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims. This is no doubt very difficult for everyone involved."
The incident took place in view of holidaymakers, including families with children. Police Commissioner Col Blanch stated that an investigation into the cause of the crash has been launched.
