France’s postal and banking services were disrupted on Thursday morning after a cyberattack temporarily rendered their websites and mobile applications largely inaccessible, French radio RFI reported.

La Poste posted a notice on its website stating that “the laposte.fr website and all of La Poste's information systems are currently facing a cyberattack.” The website and mobile application of La Banque Postale, the postal service’s banking arm, were also affected.

Authorities confirmed the pro-Russian hacker group NoName057(16) claimed responsibility. The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation, assigning the case to the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and the national cyber unit.

The disruption follows a denial-of-service attack in late December that affected parcel tracking but did not compromise deliveries or data. La Poste filed a complaint, emphasising that no sensitive information was stolen.

Experts note that NoName057(16), which emerged in 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, has previously targeted Ukrainian media, and government and corporate websites in Poland, Sweden, and Germany. Its activity is believed to support pro-Russian information operations.
