India has approved a major arms deal with Israel valued at approximately $8.7 billion, highlighting the deepening defence partnership between the two countries.

The agreement reflects India’s ongoing efforts to modernise its military capabilities while strengthening strategic ties with key technology partners.

India will purchase around 1,000 SPICE high-precision missiles. These systems are developed by Rafael Advanced Defence Systems, one of Israel’s leading defence technology companies.

The SPICE-1000 (Smart, Precise Impact, Cost-Effective) guidance kits are designed to convert conventional unguided bombs into precision-guided munitions, significantly improving accuracy while reducing the risk of unintended damage.

For India, the acquisition is expected to strengthen the operational capabilities of its air force.

Over the past two decades, Israel has become one of India’s most important defence suppliers, providing equipment ranging from surveillance systems and drones to missile defence technologies.
