Ukrainian rescuers extinguish fire on Turkish-owned vessel after Russian strike

Ukrainian emergency services extinguished a fire on a Turkish-owned civilian vessel after a Russian attack that damaged three Turkish-owned ships in southern Ukrainian ports

According to reports, the vessel crew suffered no casualties and the damage was minimal.

The attack on Friday, 12 December, also damaged two other Turkish-owned vessels in the ports of Chornomorsk and Odesa, including one carrying food supplies. The attacks came hours after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Vladimir Putin met at a forum in Ashgabat

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as “without military purpose” and part of a campaign to disrupt normal life, calling on the world to maintain the “proper moral compass” in responding to Russia’s actions.

The incident highlights escalating Black Sea tensions following Ukraine’s drone strikes on Russian “shadow fleet” oil tankers, which Moscow claims fund its war. Russia’s Defence Ministry has not commented.
