The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday advanced the National Defense Authorization Act, the NDAA, for the next fiscal year, with broad bipartisan support.

The bill authorises nearly $900 billion for military programmes, including a 3.8% pay raise for service members.

The NDAA allocates $800 million for Ukraine over two years under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, and provides $175 million to support the Baltic states under the Baltic Security Initiative.

It also repeals the 1991 and 2002 authorisations for force against Iraq and overturns the 2019 Caesar Act, which imposed sanctions on Syria over war crimes during its 13-year conflict.

The bill now moves to the Senate for final approval.
