A landslide caused by heavy rainfall in Central Java has claimed the lives of 11 people, Indonesia's disaster management agency reported on Saturday. Rescue teams are still searching for a dozen individuals who remain missing.
The landslide occurred in the city of Cilacap on Thursday, burying several homes in Cibeunying village. Rescuers have faced difficulties as the victims were buried between 3 to 8 metres (10-25 feet) deep.
"Eleven people have been confirmed dead, with three found yesterday and eight more today. Twelve individuals are still missing," said agency spokesperson Abdul Muhari to Reuters.
