Azerbaijan has no plans to deploy peacekeepers to Gaza unless there is a complete cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, an Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry official told Reuters on Friday.
As part of President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza, the U.S. has been in discussions with Azerbaijan, Indonesia, the UAE, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye about their potential contributions to an International Stabilization Force (ISF) of around 20,000 troops.
"We do not wish to risk the safety of our troops. This can only occur if all military actions are completely halted," the Azerbaijani official said.
The official also pointed out that any such decision would require parliamentary approval. The head of the parliamentary security committee told Reuters that no draft bill on the matter had yet been submitted.
A U.S.-drafted resolution at the United Nations would authorise the ISF to take "all necessary measures", including the use of force, if required to carry out its mandate of securing stability in Gaza.
